Prior to setting out on a trip, we develop detailed plans, covering safety issues, fire restrictions, water availability, etc. The Outdoor Chair, Adult Leader and Senior Patrol Leader will provide you with a packing list, responsibilities (buy food/fuel), accommodation and tent-sharing details. You'll get the help you need with buying a sleeping bag and packing a backpack. Troop 36 has the highest percentage of trained parents in the South Coast District.
Travel costs are shared. An overnight campout in the Santa Ynez mountains costs less than $20 per participant. A 3-day trip to the Sierras works out to $50-100. We often borrow/lend, buy/sell or donate used camping equipment within the Troop.
T36 does not impose a requirement that a Scout must participate in a minimum number of trips, as a condition of membership. Clearly, activity counts towards advancement. We do expect parent participation and assistance with program activities and administration.
